Character.AI has unveiled a series of platform updates designed to enhance safety for users under 18, effective November 25, 2025. Open-ended chat functionality will be disabled for minors, replaced by structured interactions and a two-hour daily usage limit that will phase in gradually. The changes aim to balance creative AI engagement with robust safeguards.

A proprietary age-assurance system, supplemented by third-party verification tools like Persona, will enforce age-appropriate experiences. This technical overhaul coincides with the creation of an AI Safety Lab, signaling the company's intensified focus on youth protection as conversational AI becomes increasingly embedded in digital ecosystems.
